UTM’s Pistol Conversions & Submachine Gun Conversions are uniquely designed to prevent the firing of traditional “Live” ammunition in the host weapons caliber. Live Round Lockout is achieved by using a chamber design that has insufficient head space for the weapons standard caliber “Live” round to fully chamber.
In the event there is an attempt to chamber a traditional “Live” round in a UTM Converted Pistol or Submachine Gun, the Slide/ Bolt will be unable to close because of the “Live” rounds inability to fit in the uniquely shaped UTM chamber. This eliminates the possibility of the Converted Pistol or Submachine Gun to go into battery. When a weapon is out of battery the Firing Pin cannot strike the primer, eliminating the possibility of detonating the “Live” round.

UTM 5.56mm Man-Marker and Target Bullet Round Conversions are uniquely designed to prevent the discharge of traditional 5.56mm/.223 “Live” ammunition (5.56 NATO, 5.56 x 45mm, and .223 Remington). Fail-Safe is achieved by utilizing a 3mm offset firing pin design, which will only work with the rim fire primer used in the UTM Cartridge, but not with a “Live” center fire cartridge.
In the event a 5.56mm “Live” cartridge is chambered and the trigger is pulled, the Conversions offset firing pin will strike outside the primer pocket of the 5.56mm “Live” round. This makes it impossible to detonate the “Live” cartridge in the UTM converted weapon. UTM Target Bullet Round Failsafe
UTM 5.56mm MMR converted weapon has an additional Fail-Safe against the firing of UTM 5.56mm Target Bullet Round (TBR).The UTM 5.56mm TBR rear rim fire primer is recessed into the cartridge case. If a UTM TBR is chambered, the MMR conversion firing pin has insufficient firing pin protrusion to strike and detonate the UTM TBR cartridges rear primer.
